Alexandre Le Cuziat

Senior Emergency Advisor for West and Central Africa at the World Food Programme

Alexandre Le Cuziat is WFP’s Senior Emergency Advisor for West and Central Africa, based in WFP Regional Bureau in Dakar since March 2020. In the coming months he will become the Deputy Country Director for WFP Chad country office, where he will supervise WFP operations across a spectrum of emergency response and resilience programmes, including a strong component of climate adaptation in a country that ranks 185th and last on the ND-GAIN index for climate adaptation (measuring two key dimensions of adaptation: vulnerability and readiness).

In the last four years as Senior Emergency Advisor for West and Central Africa, he provided strategic and operational advisory support to the regional and country leadership on emergency responses. He also oversees the support provided to emergency operations in the region by a team of experts covering humanitarian policy and advocacy, Emergency Preparedness and Response (EPR), climate risk management, and Anticipatory Action (AA).

Previously, he was the West and Central Africa desk officer in WFP HQ’s Emergencies Division (2018-2020) and was the Deputy Head of Analysis & Early Warning unit in WFP’s Emergencies Division, leading the work on integrated analysis to anticipate crises developing (2017-2018).

Before joining WFP, Alexandre held various positions with international NGOs at the country and regional office levels and in headquarters. He was Director of Operations for West and Central Africa for ACF, from 2014 to 2017, in charge of humanitarian responses during the CAR and Lake Chad Basin crises. He also worked with Save the Children International as Head of Operations Support for large and complex emergencies. He has extensive field experience in Africa and Asia, managing or supporting aid delivery operations.

Alexandre holds a Master’s in political science and international relations from the Institut d’Etudes Politiques de Lille, and a Master’s in Business Administration (MBA) from ESSEC Business School.
